I KNOW I NEED
TO FOCUS.
SO WHY IS IT
SO HARD?
I’m a sales guy. I know the deal. You show up, you do the work, the checks don’t bounce. Simple.
But simple ain’t easy, not after this many years.
This morning I sat down to do the work. Instead I found myself on LinkedIn, scrolling somebody’s promotion like it was a crime scene photo.
Then the inbox. Then the task list, staring back at me like a stack of unpaid parking tickets.
I’d tried to go straight before. Time blocking, they called it.
Wrote it right into the calendar, 2pm, prospecting. Buried in the tabs, it never got looked at again.
Reminders on the phone seemed like a good idea, right up until the group chat lit up and I forgot what I’d picked up the phone for.
My first sales manager used to say,
“It ain’t about the one great call. It’s about showing up, day after dull day.”
I nodded along, and kept doing it wrong anyway…
Emmet left a device on my desk. Round little screen, metal dial. Feels real nice.
Figured it’d be worth a try.
There’s an operator’s manual, too. Let’s see what this actually does.
Mission Sprint
Choose your focus and a manageable time block. You’ll be surprised when you hit the end and find you have steam to keep going.
Tally
Want to get 10 calls done? Set your target, tap after each one. Feel smug when you blast through and do fifteen.
Status
Show Dave that you’re head down preparing for a call before he taps you on the shoulder and ruins your focus.
Mission Log
Doesn’t report to HQ. More important: it reminds you that you showed up and you did the work.
